Conquering Performance Anxiety

Online Course From Juilliard: Psychological Skills of Top Performers

Have you ever wondered why you can play at a pretty high level when you're practicing alone at home, but as soon as you get in front of an audience, your hands start shaking, your heart starts racing, and everything begins to fall apart?

It’s not a talent issue. And that rush of adrenaline and the emotional roller coaster you experience before performances are totally normal, too.

Performing optimally under pressure is a unique skill—one that requires specific mental abilities and a few adjustments in your approach to practicing. Elite athletes have been learning these techniques for decades, and increasingly, so have musicians.

If nerves and self-doubt have been recurring obstacles in your performances, this online course will teach you how to develop the psychological skills that will help you more consistently perform your best when it matters most.

Dr. Noa Kageyama

I first picked up the violin at age 2, and spent the next 20-plus years battling performance anxiety and wondering why I couldn’t play on stage like I did in the practice room.

Then, I went to Juilliard and discovered sport psychology, which totally changed my playing and opened my eyes to a whole new world to explore. After graduation, I put my violin down to get a PhD in psychology...and now I spend my days combing through the research on learning and elite performance, so I can help musicians of all levels perform up to their full potential on stage.

If you'd like to become a more confident, skilled, and "bulletproof" musician, I'd love to share with you what I've learned.
